Propofol prevents oxidative stress and apoptosis by regulating iron homeostasis and targeting JAK/STAT3 signaling in SH-SY5Y cells

Cell Lines: SH-SY5Y (Human neuroblastoma cell line)
Summary: Y. Zhang with colleagues have demonstrated a new antioxidation mechanism of propofol, an intravenous anesthetic. Propofol could protect against nerve cell injury, induced by overload of iron through regulating iron metabolism and inhibiting stress and inflammation reaction pathways. Authors have used HoloMonitor M4 to confirm that propofol suppressed cell apoptosis by evaluating cell count.
