Summary: Malfuntioning superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzymes are linked to the imbalanced levels of radicals and various pathological conditions, including cancer. Thus, Szekacs with co-workers have studied two SOD mimiking agents functions, reactivity and toxicity. Authors have found that one analog, Cu[L], can be a promising copper based platform for biochemical and phamaceutical applications. HoloMonitor M4 was used to study SOD analog effects MC3T3-E1 cell morphology and proliferation changes for 72 hours after exposure. Authors have shown that Cu[L] can be tolerated by cells in vitro at high concentrations, while Cu2[L] induced cell changes, inplying cytotoxic effects.
